Female personal trainer, Becky, is running a one-off workshop in February 2024 to help women change their approach to fitness. Here, she shares more about this unique offering in partnership with Sussex networking group, Co-Women…

This is the kind of class I truly never thought I’d be teaching. Or attending, for that matter.

I took the first steps on my adult fitness journey in 2017, and whilst I regularly tell people that you don’t have to hit the slippery slope as hard as I did, I still have plenty of lessons to share with those who want to find the kind of movement that suits them, and improve their relationship with exercise.

I’ve been a proud member of possibly the most joyful women-only networking group on the planet since early 2022. Without Co-Women, I probably wouldn’t still have a business to talk about, and so it’s time I repaid something to that community. On 18th February, I’m hosting a workshop for Co-Women members (the bonus is that they get a discount!) and non-members.

We’re making the most of fellow member Harriet’s event space at her brilliant shop, Harriet’s of Hove, where we’ll have the time and space to delve into what you really, really want.

The workshop is called Finding Your Fitness – because it’s about you, not me, I’m just the guide. We’ll start by thinking about what you believe about movement and exercise. Often, these are thoughts we formed a long time ago (they may also have been given to us by others), and have held to be true, even when they might not be. We’ll then let go of the things that aren’t serving us as we are now, and work on creating some new beliefs which will help us to take our next steps.

I’ll then share some information on physical activity guidelines, as well as my critical take on them. These things have a place, but they aren’t for everyone, and we need to know how to consider them in relation to the reality of our own bodies. We can then figure out how to break the rules in order to both look after ourselves, and get what we need.

I’m also going to talk about one of my favourite concepts – practicality. Although I’m a personal trainer, I recognise that fitness and exercise are one of the many things on my clients’ to-do lists, rather than possibly their absolute priority. So I make a point of ensuring that workouts are both efficient and effective, as well as enjoyable as possible.  Sometimes, it’s about making the conditions suit our situation, rather than the other way around.

We’ll look at where you currently are with movement, and how to add things that will benefit you in a realistic and sustainable way. This is another one of my specialities – the thing I see most often is people trying to over-commit. My theory is that, when you take things slower, you can actually ultimately build more momentum and confidence, so I’m going to show you how.

Finally, you’ll create a plan to help you take your next steps, and then reassess when the time is right.

There’s no physical activity in this workshop, your brain will be getting a workout! All you need to bring is a writing implement and device. I won’t be able to offer specific exercise guidance or programming – there’s a different process behind that and, if you want to discuss personal training options, I’m more than happy to have a chat.

I know that those who attend this event will leave with their image of fitness radically altered for the better. So, what are you waiting for? Click here to book your place.
