Horsham-based female personal trainer, Becky, loves to travel. She doesn’t necessarily advocate for planned exercise whilst away on holiday, but she does support the use of fitness kit in warmer climates. These are her travel essentials which go with her from gym to beach…

I’ve previously discussed whether or not to exercise whilst on holiday via the blog and, in passing, have mentioned some items of sports kit that travel with me whether I’m planning on training or not. There are some occasions when a break will involve minimal activity for me – active as my body and brain are, they sometimes need a total rest, and I will go and flop next to a pool – but the majority of my holidays involve sightseeing in warm destinations. As such, some of my gym gear comes in pretty handy!

This isn’t going to be your typical, “resistance bands are easy to pack and can be a great hotel room workout option!” fitness holiday post. Read on to find out which of my gym clothes I take on holiday and why…

Nixi knickers
Probably the most comfortable underwear I’ve ever worn. Stylish. And leak-proof. Whether it’s that you’re on your period, think it might show up, you struggle with occasional leaks, or you just want to be super comfy, these are brilliant. They also now offer a bikini, which has adjustable sides so that you can change the coverage to suit you. The knickers have been a hero product for me, particularly on days when I’m in transit for a long time – the gusset is wonderfully light and not bulky at all, but very safe, and I’ve tended to forget I’m wearing leak-proof underwear, which is exactly what you want from this product.

I’m a Nixi affiliate, so you can get 15% off all of their products by using BECKYNIXI at checkout. Thank me later!

Sports bra
Regular readers know how much I advocate for a good sports bra! They’re critical for breast health and, if you think your day out might get a little adventurous, you can be comfortable and secure. The clear benefit is that they’re designed to move and get sweaty in, so they’ll dry quickly and stay cool in the heat. My everyday lingerie is something I invest in equally, but isn’t as comfortable if I get hot, plus I’m also not keen to ruin those items with sweat stains, so packing a sports bra helps me to preserve my other clothing – it’s a win all-round.

I have a few styles of sports bra in my rotation, and if I’m going somewhere hot I’ll tend to choose the one which offers the most support with the least bulk. This also means that if I want to hand wash it whilst away, I can do so in the evening and it’ll usually be dry to use again by morning.

Trainers
An obvious choice for many of us, as we’ll typically opt to make use of our comfiest footwear for transit days in particular… but it wasn’t always the case for me! I used to be a bit keener to try and “look nice” at all times, and sacrificed function – and my feet – with more “stylish” shoes on too many occasions. I’ve now finally learned my lesson, and accept that trainers are absolutely my favourite option for a day of sightseeing or trekking about. If I’m heading somewhere hot, I tend to carry a pair of comfortable sandals in my hand luggage, to change into when I arrive and alleviate some of the heat on arrival (I’m that type of ADHD sensitive). On my way home, I’ll reverse the options, as it tends to be much cooler upon arrival in the UK.

Did this post surprise you? Were you expecting me to advocate for slider discs, a mat and resistance bands? Let me know!
